The success of every academic program is built on the successes of individual students. UC Davis offers a variety of academic advising services that can help you plan and meet your personal goals.
Advising Resources

Orientation

Attending the summer Orientation program is a campus expectation. Orientation offers you an intensive, thorough introduction to the UC Davis campus. You’ll meet other students in your major, talk with academic advisers about your plans for the year ahead and stay overnight in the residence halls (if you’re a freshman). You will also take placement exams in math, chemistry and/or foreign language, receive your photo ID card and register for your fall quarter classes.

General Advising

For general advice on tailoring your academic program to match your interests, the Advising Services Department sponsors The First Resort Advising Center, Transfer Student Services, Reentry Student Services and several other interest-specific programs. Peer advising, available on a drop-in basis both from The First Resort and from academic departments, is a great way to get answers to your advising questions quickly. Peer advisers can also direct you to additional campus services appropriate to your needs.

College Advising

Advisers in your College will assist you as you navigate through the undergraduate experience. They will help you explore major and minor options. They will also guide you in developing an academic plan to keep you on track to graduation. Your College adviser will also be a valuable resource if you encounter special academic challenges.

Academic Department Advising

Your academic department can provide you with updated, customized information on the coursework you need to fulfill your major's requirements.

Degree Navigator

This online tool allows you to quickly view the exact courses you can choose to fulfill both general education and major-specific requirements. Once you enroll, your Degree Navigator record will be updated to reflect all coursework you have completed, including courses from other institutions or credit by examination.
