Honors Opportunities

Interested in challenging, participatory learning experiences? Want to enhance your research skills? UC Davis honors programs help students think critically, learn collaboratively and solve real-world problems.

Davis Honors Challenge

Davis Honors Challenge (DHC) is an innovative, open-application, campuswide honors program for highly motivated students. DHC offers students the opportunity to participate in an honors program throughout their UC Davis career, with a residential living-learning option and mentor program for freshmen.

All incoming freshmen and transfer students are invited by apply online through the DHC Web site during the spring quarter prior to admission. Selection for DHC is based on an essay application that demonstrates enthusiasm about taking an active role in one's education, a commitment to learn in new and different ways, and an ability to work collaboratively with others. Transfer students accepted to DHC will follow the requirements of either the second- or third-year program, depending upon class standing.

Integrated Studies Honors Program

Integrated Studies Honors Program (ISHP), the oldest continuous residential learning community in the UC system, is an invitational, residential honors program for freshmen. ISHP provides an academic residential community similar to those of the best small colleges and helps students integrate knowledge from the arts and humanities, natural sciences and engineering, and social sciences.

Honors in Your Major

Interested in pursuing advanced study within your major? Many of our departments offer major-specific honors programs that can enrich your learning experience and give you even more opportunities to work closely with faculty and other dedicated students. Visit our University Honors Program Web site to learn more about requirements for applying to these programs.

Honor Societies

UC Davis has a number of student honor societies. These groups are departmental, professional, local and national organizations whose memberships are based on outstanding academic achievement. Just a few of the societies represented at UC Davis are Gamma Sigma Delta, Phi Beta Kappa, Tau Beta Pi, Psi Chi and the Prytanean Society. Many offer scholarships to recognize the most academically deserving students. Our University Honors Program can help you find a society that best fits your interests.

Honors Courses

For exceptionally well-prepared students, honors sections of regular classes provide additional challenges and opportunities to work closely with instructors. The Physics 9H series is one such class. If you've passed AP calculus in high school and earned a score of 3 or higher on the AP Calculus exam, consider taking advantage of this intensive three-quarter introduction to topics in modern and classical physics.
