Can I Apply Late or for a Closed Term?

Filing deadlines are rarely extended. Check for the most current information on extended or special filing deadlines.

To apply for admission after a filing period has ended or for a closed filing period, you must submit a printed application with a written appeal. Consideration for appeals is based on your overall application and extenuating circumstances.

Include a statement describing your special circumstances along with your completed UC application (including your personal statement and fee), official or self-reported academic records, letters of recommendation (suggested) and any other documentation. Please indicate the quarter and year for which you are appealing, as well as whether you are applying as a freshman or transfer student. Mail your appeal to:

Appeals Committee, Late Application/Closed Term
Undergraduate Admissions
University of California
One Shields Avenue
Davis, CA 95616-8507

No faxed or e-mailed appeals will be considered, and no in-person or phone interviews will be granted. Once Undergraduate Admissions receives your appeal, you should receive written notification regarding its status within four to six weeks.

Where Can I Get an Application?

We encourage you to take advantage of our secure, convenient online application, available during regular application filing periods. Helpful prompts assist you in completing your application thoroughly and accurately. You may also download a printable application just before the start of each filing period. To have a copy mailed to you, e-mail your request to ucinfo@ucapplication.net. Include your name, address, the term for which you're applying and whether you're a freshmen or transfer applicant.

Where Do I Send My Application?

If you are completing a print application, you will submit it to the California Undergraduate Application Processing Service, P.O. Box 4010, Concord, CA, 94524-4010, not directly to UC Davis. Your application must be postmarked by the final filing deadline.

Application Fees

The filing fee for each University of California campus you apply to is $60. For international applicants, the filing fee is $70 per campus.

Fee waivers are available to students who meet strict eligibility guidelines based on household size and family income. If you apply online, you can fill out the fee waiver form included with the online application. If, after review by UC staff, you are not eligible for a fee waiver, you will be billed for all application fees.

Some Do’s and Don’ts For Completing Your Application

  • DO read and follow all instructions included with the application. Some questions (such as those relating to family size and income) are optional, but answers may be required for special programs or scholarships.
  • DO report all coursework. Don't forget to include any college courses you have taken or plan to take.
  • DO list all your honors and awards with complete explanations.
  • DO review our guidelines for writing a successful personal statement.
  • DO have someone (a parent, teacher or counselor is best) review and proofread your application and personal statement.
  • DO report all Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) examination scores.

  • DON'T omit academic coursework because you think it doesn't matter or because you've repeated a class. Include all information so that our evaluators can review your application completely.
  • DON'T send additional supporting materials, such as poetry, photos, letters of recommendation or copies of award certificates.
  • DON'T exceed 1,000 words in length when writing your personal statement.
  • DON'T write any aspect of your personal statement in the form of a poem, list of hardships or extended metaphor or simile ("I am like a cake with many ingredients").
