Prospective Transfer Students

UC Davis students

Are you ready to make the move to UC Davis? We welcome transfer applicants from all schools, though we give priority to transfers from California community colleges. UC Davis and the surrounding community offer an accommodating, friendly environment for transfer students of all ages and from all backgrounds. We look forward to seeing you on campus!

Prospective Transfer Students:
UC Eligibility and UC Davis Admission Criteria

To ensure that our students are ready to succeed at college level work, we require specific academic preparation. You must meet our minimum subject and scholarship requirements to be eligible for UC admission. First, applicants must meet specific coursework, GPA and examination requirements to be minimally eligible for admission to the University of California. If you're not a California resident, you must meet additional non-resident eligibility requirements. Keep in mind that achieving UC eligibility guarantees your admission at a UC campus, but it does not guarantee that you will be admitted to UC Davis or other selective campuses.

Depending on your intended major, you may need to fulfill additional major-specific requirements as well. At UC Davis, these include all majors in the College of Engineering and the College of Biological Sciences, as well as some majors in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and College of Letters and Science.

Next, we thoroughly review all UC-eligible applicants' records and score them based on UC Davis-specific admission criteria. Students will be selected primarily on the basis of academic performance and preparation, as assessed by review of the following: GPA in academic coursework, completion of breadth or general education requirements and strength of preparation for their intended major. You can view the GPA of our fall 2008 admitted students, who generally exceeded UC eligibility criteria.

Transfer Priority from Community College vs. another UC Campus or a Four-Year College

Highest priority for admission is given to junior-level California community college transfer applicants with 60 semester (90 quarter) units. Priority is next given to junior-level transfer students from other UC campuses and other four-year institutions in and out of California. Finally, if space is available, lower-division transfers with superior grades are admitted, but only into the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

Students who wish to transfer to UC Davis from another UC campus must submit an application for undergraduate admission during the appropriate filing period. A minimum 2.0 GPA is required, though achieving a higher GPA is recommended to be a competitive applicant. Additional major-specific requirements must be fulfilled for selective majors.
