Since UC Davis is a selective university, transfer applicants generally must have academic records far beyond UC eligibility requirements. You must complete specific requirements in addition to the seven required courses in English, math and other subject areas to be considered for many of our popular majors.
Transfers: Selection Process

Selection Process

The primary basis of our admission decision is your academic preparation. We will review your transferable GPA, transferable courses—completed, in progress and planned—and the courses you’ve completed in preparation for your major.

You must complete specific preparatory coursework with a specific GPA to be eligible for admission to certain majors. These include all majors in the College of Engineering and the College of Biological Sciences, as well as some majors in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and College of Letters and Science.

A 2.4 GPA is the UC minimum required for admission. For all majors, UC Davis recommends that transfer students attain an overall minimum transfer GPA of 2.8 for the best chance of admittance. In fact, students are strongly encouraged to work toward a GPA of 3.0 or higher as enrollment constraints may cause various majors to be more competitive.

Certain colleges and selective majors have higher GPA requirements. For example, the College of Engineering requires a minimum GPA of 3.10 for admission. Additionally, a higher overall transfer GPA may be required to qualify for a Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) in certain majors.

Our admission decision is also based on the available spaces in the specific college/division you selected in your application. Admission spaces are unique for each college/division and may vary each year.

Personal Statement

Your personal statement is important to our review. Use your personal statement to discuss the personal, academic or career goals that led you to choose your major.

Please note that you should explain any gaps in your educational chronology. A brief description of what you were doing during these breaks in your education is all that is necessary.
