Requirements in the College of Letters and Science

Selective majors in the College of Letters and Sciences with additional transfer requirements include:

You may use ASSIST to search for courses at your California community college that are equivalent to UC Davis courses. Any required courses that are offered at your current college must be completed by the close of spring term for fall enrollment at UC Davis. If required courses are not offered at your college, you must complete them after enrolling at UC Davis.


Communication

You must earn an overall transfer GPA of 2.80 or higher to be a competitive candidate for admission. An overall transfer GPA of 2.90 or higher is required to qualify for a Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG). Candidates must complete courses comparable to the following UC Davis courses with a GPA of at least 3.00 for the course group. Courses must be taken for a letter grade, with no grade less than C:

  • Anthropology 4 or Linguistics 1
  • Psychology 1
  • Sociology 1
  • Statistics 13

International Relations

You must earn an overall transfer GPA of 2.80 or higher to be a competitive candidate for admission. An overall transfer GPA of 2.90 or higher is required to qualify for a Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG). Candidates must complete courses comparable to the following UC Davis courses with a GPA of at least 3.00 for the course group. Courses must be taken for a letter grade, with no grade less than C:

  • Anthropology 2 or Economics 1A
  • Economics 1B
  • History 4C or 10C
  • International Relations 1 or Political Science 3
  • Statistics 13 or Sociology 46B

Psychology

You must earn an overall transfer GPA of 2.80 or higher to be a competitive candidate for admission. An overall transfer GPA of 2.90 or higher is required to qualify for a Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG). Candidates must complete courses comparable to the following UC Davis courses with a GPA of at least 2.90 for the course group. Courses must be taken for a letter grade, with no grade less than C:

  • Psychology 1
  • Psychology 41
  • Statistics 13
  • One transferable course in Sociology or Cultural Anthropology
  • One of these two options:
    1. Biological Sciences 1A or 2A OR
    2. Biological Sciences 10 AND ONE course from:
      Anthropology 1 OR
      Molecular and Cellular Biology 10 OR
      Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior 10

Although only one biological sciences course is required for admission, students interested in pursuing a B.S. degree with emphasis in biology are encouraged to complete the recommended courses shown on ASSIST. Students are encouraged to complete courses comparable to those in the Biological Sciences 2A/B/C series if offered at the community college. Students beginning the Biological Sciences 1A/B/C series should plan to complete the required and recommended courses from the series before transferring Students who transfer without completing the preparatory subject matter requirements must see a UC Davis adviser before continuing with biological sciences.
