Cost of Attendance

Two female students showing 'I love UC Davis' sign

UC Davis costs much less than comparable private universities for the same world-class education, and the city of Davis is more affordable than most UC communities. Scholarships and grants fully cover UC tuition and fees for more than half of undergraduates, and 43 percent of our students graduate debt-free! In fact, the value of a UC Davis education has been championed by financial publications like Kiplinger's Personal Finance, Payscale, The Princeton Review and SmartMoney.

Your costs will vary, depending on the living situation you choose. The following chart represents an estimate of typical expenses for a student living on campus:

Estimated annual costs for 2015-16
California Resident National and International Students
Tuition and Fees* $13,951 $38,659
Books and Supplies $1,576 $1,576
Room and Board ** $14,517 $14,517
Personal Expenses $1,538 $1,538
Transportation $626 $626
Total $32,208 $56,916

All tuition, fees, and budget expenses shown are estimates that are subject to change without notice, and do not include campus health insurance fees of $2,115. Health insurance is mandatory, but can be waived with proof of adequate private health insurance.

* Tuition and fees include campus-based fees that support many programs, facilities and services for students. A one-time $150 document fee is not included. For more details, please visit the Office of Budget and Institutional Analysis website.

** On-campus room and board cost estimates include phone service, restaurants and snacks, and are based upon the mean cost of all campus housing choices. More information about housing fees and quarterly payment schedules are available from UC Davis Student Housing.

Your cost of attendance may differ from the figures shown, depending upon your choices and lifestyle. For example, with an average of 265 days of sunshine each year, most students bike to campus and may have much lower transportation costs than those shown above.
