BikeThink of Davis, and you’ll probably think of bicycles. A bike is the quickest, easiest and cheapest way to get around on campus and in town. Our pancake-flat terrain means you don’t need an expensive road or mountain bike; the 10-speed you’ve had forever will work just fine. With a helmet, a good U-lock and a California bike license, you’ll be ready to take to the road. The Bike Barn, located in the Silo Student Union, provides free fill-ups for your tires and plenty of expert advice on bike repair and maintenance. The Department of Transportation and Parking Services issues bike licenses, which can be used to reunite you with your bike if it’s ever stolen and recovered. UnitransOur distinctive Unitrans double-decker buses make many first-time visitors do a double take. These authentic “London buses,” along with a fleet of standard buses, provide reliable transportation throughout the City of Davis. No matter where you want to go, you'll probably find it's within just a few blocks of a Unitrans bus stop. And since the service is owned and operated by the Associated Students of UC Davis, your ride is free--you can even apply for a job driving one of the double-deckers around town. YolobusNeed to go a little farther afield? Yolobus is free for registered UC Davis students. Just show a current student ID card for easy, reliable transportation to Woodland, West Sacramento or even Sacramento International Airport. Sacramento AirportNoted for its easy access and excellent on-time flight record, Sacramento International Airport is just a 20-minute drive away. Major carriers including United, American, Delta, Southwest and America West Airlines provide service to destinations throughout the country and the world. Avoid the hassles of crowded Bay Area airports, and enjoy your flight! Greyhound & AmtrakBoth Greyhound buses and Amtrak trains depart regularly from Davis' downtown train station, located just a few blocks from campus. Enjoy rapid, reliable service to the Bay Area and other areas of California. University ShuttlesGet a quick ride to Sacramento or Berkeley aboard one of our regular shuttles. The UC Davis Medical Center shuttle can take you to Sacramento and back again for a $1-each-way fee. A lift to UC Berkeley's West Gate entrance is just $5.50 each way. ParkingOur campus has chosen to make academic, recreational and housing facilities a higher priority than parking lots for private vehicles. A limited number of parking passes are available for off-campus residents. Our on-campus resident parking policy has recently changed. Ride BoardThe ASUCD Ride Board, located on the first floor of the Memorial Union, allows students to share rides around the state. Whether you’re looking for a lift or you need someone to share driving costs, you can find another student or students going the same direction as you. |
